Project Assistant, Central Asia, ECA Programme

Responsible to: Project Coordinator, Central Asia, ECA programme
Key Relationships: Head of ECA Programme, ECA Programme Officer, Fundraiser Officer, Cross
Programme Project Manager, Finance Officer, Communication Team.
Contract: Fixed Term Contract for 10 months in 2015, with possible extension
Working hours: 40 hours a week
Location: Almaty, Kazakhstan

ROLE PURPOSE

The primary task of this role is to support the coordination and implementation of ARTICLE 19’s work on freedom of expression and access to information in the Central Asia region, as part of the ECA programme.

Under the supervision of the Central Asia Project Coordinator, the Project Assistant will be responsible for overall provision of conceptual and logistical support for the programme; monitoring trends in freedom of expression and access to information in the region; support in strengthening ARTICLE 19’s regional profile; contributing to the planning, coordination and implementation of the donor-funded programme in the region; and supporting the development of the Central Asia strategy in the region.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide conceptual and logistical support for the project;
  • Draft project documents: concepts; proposals, financial and narrative reports; collecting and classifying information;
  • Provide assistance planning and designing project activities, foreseeing and measuring their impact against project goals and objectives; managing task completion & adhering to deadlines;
  • Provide assistance related to identification of potential trainers, trainees, partners for project events inside and outside Central Asia;
  • Perform event preparation activities;
  • Arrange all the necessary logistics related to the travel of Projects Coordinator and other project implementers;
  • Assist with the tracking of event budgets to ensure costs are in line with the approved project budget;
  • Assist with the development of event materials in Russian and English, including translating if needed, formatting,
  • Support the dissemination of information related to the project to various audiences worldwide;
  • Provide backstopping of activities for the Projects Coordinator as needed;

REQUIREMENTS

  • Russian: fluent; English: at least upper intermediate; knowledge of any Central Asian language is a plus;
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in law, political science or a related field of study
  • Recent graduate/Prior working experience in no-­profit not required, but a plus
  • Familiarity with human rights issues;
  • Proficient in computer applications, especially with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;
